Real Life is Freshman Football

So a few days ago, on a call with Hari Sundram, we were laughing about being athlete parents and how real life (and especially #entrepreneurship) is so much like playing an away game where the referees are buddies with the home team.

The other night was my freshman son’s first official high school #football game. My husband coached his 8th grade team and moved him from Running Back to Quarterback and I thought he was crazy (so did my son at first). He saw something in JR that I didn’t. This year we moved him to a bigger school so he would have more opportunities with #sports because that's his #passion, and they put him at QB/LB.

That game was an undeniable analogy for real life. So much so that I had to share.

Real life is…

-Finding out your freshman team is playing the opponent’s JV team (and not letting that psych you out)

-Realizing the value of the people in your life that see things in you that you don’t (and trusting them)

-Knowing when to run the ball and when to pass it (and surrounding yourself with people you trust enough to pass it to)

-Running 50 yards for a TD that gets called back for holding in the backfield (and not wasting time on the small injustices of life)

-Having your RB forget you’re running a trick play and fumble the ball (and still having to be a good #leader without making them feel small)

-Humbling yourself and realizing that you’re not conditioned as well as you thought you were (and being willing to put in the work between the big moments)

-Trying to find the wins and rallying your people even inside the loss (and sometimes rallying yourself when no one else is around)

-Waking up the next day completely exhausted and beat up and getting ready to do it all again

So... this is part life reflection/analogy and part #proudmama (ps he's #12 on the white team and I hope he's adequately mortified that I'm posting this video 😂)

Thanks to so many in my #tribe (especially my husband) and the people who’ve seen things in me that I didn’t...and helping me rally in the hardest moments.

Maybe take a moment today to #thank your people...
